Exploring the 7 Chakras Part Six: Third Eye
The Third Eye Chakra
The Third Eye Chakra is also called Ajna. Ajna translates "to know or perceive" in Sanskrit. It is located in the middle of the forehead between the eyebrows. Its color is dark blue or indigo. The Third Eye Chakra is symbolized as a two petal lotus. Each of the petals face the other representing the union of our feminine and masculine energy coming together in a harmonious, balanced state, similar to a Yin Yang. This Chakra is the spiritual center of awareness and intuition. We can only obtain a higher level of knowledge when we step beyond our conscious mind and the hold our ego has on us. We have been conditioned to shut off our intuition constricting us from accessing a higher level of awareness. When we awaken our Third Eye and allow ourselves to use the intuitive powers we were born with, we can finally see ourselves from a higher perspective. We are able to heal and break free from the grip that past traumas and emotional wounds have had over us. Illusions and self-delusion disappear while mental clarity, inner wisdom and a higher level of awareness ensue.
The Third Eye Chakra is symbolized by two petals facing one another. This is the point where our feminine and masculine energies meet representing harmony and unity, similar to the Yin Yang. The symbol to the right also includes the Sanskrit symbol for the Mantra OM/AUM.

This concludes Part Six of our Seven Part Series, Exploring the 7 Chakras. We encourage you to be patient and have compassion for yourself as you work with the Third Eye Chakra. Meditation is key to awakening the Third Eye. It is in meditation that we get a glimpse of what is possible when we align ourselves with a higher level of consciousness. Trust your gut and the energy you feel and slow down if you become overwhelmed. Awakening your intuitive powers can be intimidating and even scary at times, but if you go slow and have patience with yourself you will hear your intuition guiding you and know everything is exactly as it should be.
